Merry Christmas Eve! Iron work and new drawings.

My uncle creates fantastic pieces of furniture and decorative items made of iron. I have one piece in my studio and I'm hoping to have more brought down from his shop in Aitkin. His website is www.yourchoicewroughtiron.com and you can view his creations there. My parent's have the planter and place a pot of petunias in the center.
Here are two more pieces I created from the great emails I received when I asked for dog models. Thanks everyone!
I'm about to go home and attempt my first turkey cooking adventure. Have a wonderful holiday!

Snow!

Today is the last open studio for December and I'm happy that some folks braved the snow to come out for a visit! My mom made the long trip from Aitkin today to see me and my work! The plows haven't cleared much yet but the snow is supposed to fall all day and night so they have plenty of time to get out there. Enjoy the snow!

December's number line

At St. Olaf I met a person studying 'number lines'. Number lines, as she described them, are how we visualize numbers as we count in our heads. For example my number line starts low on the picture then jumps high at five then jumps again and plateaus from 12 to 20. The researcher said our visions of numbers can depend on how we initially learned to recognize numbers as a child, a more spatial idea then an abstract idea. Same goes for months of the year. The end of December in my head is always the peak on the loop that is my 'year line'. Maybe because it is always so busy and I have a million things to remember but it might also be a residual elevated happiness from school's winter break. As the holidays approach, I hope you all have a wonderful time with family and friends and once those 'year lines' settle down into the cold months of January and February consider warming your heart with a family or pet portrait from Lintu Art.

Check out Waste to Wrist

I met a cool mom and son duo at an art show last week. They have a business called Waste to Wrist. They create hip bracelets from used belts. These bracelets range from black vinyl spikes to soft brown leather. I wear a bracelet from them and it is very comfortable and I chose one to fit my personality. They've found a few venues around town to sell their wares and if you see them take a good look. I'm not sure if they have a website up but here is their email: waist2wrist(at)comcast.net

About me and this weekend

Weekend plans have changed because my attempt to create a clone of myself has failed. I'll be at Northrup on Saturday from 12-7pm and Black Forest Inn Sunday from 12-7pm. I had a great first open studio at Northrup last night. I got to hear lots of awesome dog stories and received positive feedback about my work.

A little about me: I grew up just north of Minneapolis and I have lots of family near Aitkin, MN. I travel up north for family, fishing, swimming, dirt road walking, snowmobiling, and the "world famous" Aitkin fish house parade. I've worked as a contract painter, recycling coordinator, dairy farm manager and artist. I am very passionate about animals and I am coordinating a art show for March 2009 to benefit a dog rescue group called A Rotta Love. I graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in biology and studio art. My skills in biology lend a great deal to my artwork because I am able to focus on the structures behind a face or body to create an image that captures personality and reality. My wonderful boyfriend Bryan, myself and our dog Marilyn currently live in South Minneapolis.

Looking for Dog Models!

Calling all good looking pups! I just moved into a large studio and I have lots of wall space to fill! Much of my work is done on commission so I don't get to keep it long to show it off. Therefore, I'm looking for a few photos of your young, old, big, small, handsome, and/or interesting looking pup so I can showcase their portrait in my studio. No obligation to you but it would be fun to tell your friends that your dog is a model! Another excuse to get yourself out art viewing in the Northrup King Building! I just need a digital photo of your dog, with or without people, and your permission to use the image. Thanks! Send images to sarah.lintu@gmail.com

Art at The Dog Perk

I met Tony and Amy, owners of The Dog Perk, at the Linden Hills Woofstock event. I was very excited when they asked me if I would like to put a few pieces up in their St. Louis Park store. They have really fun items for dog owners: fun T-shirts, bandannas, and lots more. Check out their store at www.thedogperk.com

What is Lintu Art?

Even though this is my first blog with Lintu Art that doesn't mean there hasn't been a whirlwind of activity! I had a great time at Woofstock in Linden Hills this September. I was able to show my work and meet a lot of great people and dogs. I was so happy to encounter a pack of Border Terriers! I grew up with three Borders and they hold a special place in my heart. I had a drawing for a free pet portrait and Kozee, one of the Border Terriers, was the winner! That is his portrait on the left. I had a great picture to work from to create a 6x6 inch portrait matted with textured black mat board and framed in locally harvested pine.

This portrait is of my dog Marilyn. She was adopted through a Shar Pei rescue organization in Georgia after her original person passed away. She has been a blessing to have around and gets me outside on walks twice a day. When I create my art at home she will curl up near my feet and keep me company. It is fun to introduce her to people I meet on walks because although she may look tough she is just looking for a puppy shoulder massage.

Lintu Art is all about family and pet portraits. I recently opened a studio in the Northrup King Building in NE Minneapolis (1500 Jackson Street NE). Please stop by studio 390 on the first Thursday of the month, or any Saturday during December. I'm always able to have studio visits by appointment, just email me at sarah.lintu@gmail.com.

I'll post again with more details about my history and how I came to be an artist. Thank you for welcoming Lintu Art!
