Happy Holidays!

Happy holidays everyone! My husband and I are celebrating our first holiday together this year and for his present, I created a large piece featuring his three favorite things: his '83 Landcruiser, our dog Marilyn (this was before our new family member, George!) and the Oakland Athletics.

Safe travels and may every dog receive a few extra treats this season!

Saturday, December 19th

Open studios at Northrup King Building this Saturday, December 19th from noon to 5pm!

AND....

Dates have been set for Dogs Around the Lakes photo shoots for Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun! Dogs Around the Lakes is an annual print series celebrating the summer weather, our beautiful Minneapolis lakes and our dog friends (see Lintu Art's gallery for past prints).

For Lake Calhoun 2010 we are calling all black dogs to become a candidate for the print. Lintu Art is teaming up with Start Seeing Black Dogs (www.startseeingblackdogs.com) to spread the word about how wonderful black dogs can be and how often they are overlooked in shelters.

To participate in Dogs Around the Lakes, email Sarah at sarah.lintu@gmail.com. You'll be given a free ten minute photo shoot at the lake and your dog will be in the running to be one of the sixteen dogs to have their portrait created to be featured on the print. Spots are limited!

Dogs Around the Lakes: Lake Harriet will be May 22nd from 10am to 4pm
Dogs Around the Lakes: Lake Calhoun will be June 20th from 10am to 4pm.

Send an email to Sarah to be put on the list for an invitation closer to the date!

Calling tall dogs, calling short dogs!

I'm working on a project inspired by a recent photo shoot with a beautiful dog that will go unnamed because her portrait is a surprise! The aforementioned dog was one of the taller dogs I have encountered (Pushkin and Talisker still take the cake, see above) and she inspired a series of drawings juxtaposing exceptionally tall and short dogs.

This Saturday and Sunday (November 21st and 22nd) from 2-4pm is the photo shoot for this project. Do you have tall dog or short dog that would love to model for this series? Northrup King Building is located at 1500 Jackson Street NE in Minneapolis.

Email me: sarah.lintu@gmail.com or stop by studio 390!

Art Attack at NKB

This coming Friday through Sunday (November 6th-8th) is the Northrup King Building fall art crawl, Art Attack! NKB can be a little tricky to find the first time you visit but the PPL shop and Danish Teak Classics have a few signs nearby if you need a little guidance close to the building.

My studio is on the third floor, number 390.

Dogs Around the Lakes 2009

What a great season it has been for the Dogs Around the Lakes print series! I met so many wonderful people and dogs this summer. I hope to see everyone again at other studio events or at the 2010 season party. That is why I love this project, by meeting with you and the hours of examining each whisker, spot and nose of the dogs on these prints, I feel like an old friend and I want to know how you are! So, if you're able, drop me an email with pictures or stop by during a First Thursday. Life is better with friends (and dogs!)

Thank you Lake Nokomis for your enthusiasm for the final print of the series! I'll have an image of the print up in my gallery by the end of the week. If you'd like to see the print for yourself, Art Attack is coming up! November 6, 7, and 8 (more info at www.northrupkingbuilding.com)

Photo shoot with Bella

Bella's dad heard about my work through the Close to Home series airing on Channel 6 (check out my media page to see the clip!). He had been thinking of having Bella's portrait done but didn't want to send off a picture over the internet and have a generic portrait come back. I love to meet my subjects if possible because it really adds to my experience in creating their portraits. Bella is a little cautious about new people but the way she responded to her person let her happy personality shine through. Above is a photo of her enjoying a nice patch of shade on a sunny day. Thanks Bella!

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel group poster, Is it dog day

I was recently invited to create a print to celebrate a group of folks that meet every other Saturday to socialize themselves and with their collective thirteen Cavalier King Charles Spaniels! I had an awesome time photographing each pup and I am currently creating the portraits that will be part of the final print (See Wilson above!). The print will be complete in September and I'm excited to see it complete!
This is a great project to commemorate this group, each dog will have its portrait and name on the print much like the Dogs Around the Lakes poster I create during the summer.

Upcoming events!

The 2009 Dogs Around the Lakes poster series will wrap up with Lake Nokomis on September 27th from 10am to 4pm. I highly recommend scheduling your ten minute free photo shoot before that weekend so that your pup gets his or her time with the camera. There is no cost to participate in the poster series and having a scheduled photo shoot means that we'll have more pictures in the pool of poster candidates! Only sixteen dogs are selected for the poster. Email me to schedule a time: sarah.lintu@gmail.com.

Woofstock, a dog celebration in Linden Hills, is September 12th from 10-3pm. Lintu Art will have a booth there with examples of my work and prints. Stop by my booth in the Famous Dave's parking lot!

Selby Jazz Fest is September 12th from 11-7pm at the intersection of Selby and Milton in St. Paul. This event is a little different from other events but I'm so excited to be over in St. Paul! I'm looking forward to some great music and people while at that event!

Final poster of 2009, Lake Nokomis

The Dogs Around the Lakes series for 2009 will wrap up with a final poster for Lake Nokomis. Marilyn and I are normally Lake Harriet or Calhoun walkers so it I am excited to get out to a lake that I don't otherwise explore! Think of all the new dogs and families I'll be able to meet! The photo shoot for this poster will be Sunday, September 27th from 10am to 4pm. I highly recommend scheduling a time slot with me so your dog can have a full session with the camera. You can RSVP by emailing: sarah.lintu@gmail.com. There is no fee for the photo shoot! Send an invite to dog lovers you know!

A little background about Dogs Around the Lakes: This project is an annual poster series specifically for the chain of lakes in Minneapolis (Calhoun, Harriet, Isles etc). One day is scheduled as the photo shoot and each beautiful dog receives a 5 minute session for free! Sixteen of the dogs are selected for the poster which takes about one month to create. When complete, everyone is invited for the unveiling where the pups receive treats and praise for their stardom. Posters are available for purchase but having a dog on the poster does not make purchasing a poster an obligation! This is a project to celebrate our dog friends!

Thank you everyone that was able to come join in the poster unveiling party! It was warm in the sunshine and I had a great time seeing you and the dogs again. Here are a few pictures from the unveiling today. I hope to have a copy of the poster up on my website's gallery very soon so you may be able to view it there.

I have donated a piece to the Sanctuary for Animals benefit this afternoon in Waconia. What a great day of dog related events! My husband is going out to Waconia with me today...but he is play golf.

New work on the website gallery!

I learned something new yesterday when I was trying to look at my website gallery. I couldn't see the new images posted and was told that my computer is just remembering the old site. What!? I didn't know computers did this! To fix that problem, go to the Tools menu at the top of the browser then click Clear Private Data.

Check out the new images on www.LintuArt.com in the gallery!

Lake of the Isles and poster series update

Hello! Thank you everyone from Lake of the Isles for coming out on a slightly rainy day for a great photo shoot. Lake of the Isles will be the third installment for the 2009 Dogs Around the Lakes poster series and it is shaping up to be a fantastic addition! The unveiling party is scheduled for July 19th at 11am. Treats for people and pups will be provided. If you're interested in attending, please RSVP at your earliest convenience.
In case of rain the poster unveiling will be rescheduled for Thursday, August 6th at 6pm at my studio in Northrup King Building (www.northrupkingbuilding.com for info).

Every first Thursday of the month (such as August 6th) the Northrup King Building hosts an open studio evening from 5 pm to 9 pm. My studio, located on the third floor, is open during these Thursdays and you are welcome to visit!

The 2009 Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun posters will be posted to my website gallery very soon! My web guru has been out of town, I apologize for the delay! If you are interested in purchasing a poster of either of these lakes I encourage you to consider putting a down payment to hold one. Twenty dollars will guarantee that you will receive a poster. The 2008 Harriet poster sold out and this year's posters are on the same track! I print twenty posters for each lake and each poster is numbered and signed. I've been asked to think of a way for the dog's to sign the posters...I'm still brainstorming! Thank you!

Lake Calhoun poster unveiling

I want to thank everyone that came to the 2009 Dogs Around the Lakes: Lake Calhoun poster unveiling party! Just a few rain drops and a lot of fun!

I want to sincerely apologize for my mistake with the time. I had emailed that the unveiling would be at 11:30am but I almost always have these unveilings at noon. I was there at noon today and I heard that a few folks had not been able to wait for my mixed up self to set up. I am so sorry!

The Lake Calhoun poster will be up on my website, www.LintuArt.com, early this week.

Photo shoot for Lake of the Isles today from 2pm-5pm! I'll be on the walking path across the street from the off-leash dog park. The radar looks like the light rain has passed for now! See you there!

Saturday, June 20, 2009

Lake Harriet thank you! Lake Calhoun and Isles, see you tomorrow!

Thank you families of Lulu, Flo, Maybel, Mac, Watson, Freeway and Daisy for enjoying the sunny day at Lake Harriet and viewing the 2009 Lake Harriet poster! It was great to see you and the pups again! An image of the poster will go up on my website very soon!

Lake Calhoun, the weather looks like there will be a 50% chance of rain tomorrow but I'm crossing my fingers that we'll have great weather! I'll be just south of the Tin Fish restaurant with the 2009 Lake Calhoun poster at noon and I hope to see you there for the unveiling!

Lake of the Isles, the photo shoot was rained out last Tuesday and was rescheduled for Sunday (tomorrow!) from 2-5pm. If there is rain tomorrow then we will try for Tuesday, June 23rd from 4-7pm! We will get that photo shoot in one of these sunny days!

So far this weekend's weather is looking good for the poster unveiling parties! Lake Harriet on Saturday at noon near the band shell. Lake Calhoun at noon just south of the Tin Fish restaurant and boat launch area. Hope to see you and all the dogs there!

First Thursday, Art A Whirl, Thank you Lake Calhoun!

Lintu Art in Studio 390 and Northrup King welcome you to upcoming events!

Tomorrow evening is the First Thursday for May where Northrup King Building will open its studios to the public from 5-9pm. Great preview of what artists are preparing for Art A Whirl!

Speaking of Art A Whirl, this Minneapolis art crawl is a fantastic event. www.nemaa.org for complete details. May 15-17th Northrup King will be participating with over 150 artists in one building! Stop by studio 390 to say hello, see new works, and enjoy some treats. Sorry, no puppies allowed in the building :(

Thank you everyone that participated in Dogs Around the Lakes: Lake Calhoun. What a gorgeous day we had that Sunday! An interesting trend that day was there were many visitors from suburbs or rural areas that I spoke to. I love to meet my fellow dog lovers and their pups. I'm in the process of selecting the sixteen dogs for Lake Calhoun and will get emails out to everyone this week. I try to include all types of pups on the poster (big/small, young/old, light/dark etc) so if your dog isn't selected that just means I hope to see you next year!

Dogs Around the Lakes: Lake Calhoun on May 3rd!

Sunday May 3rd will be the photo shoot for Dogs Around the Lakes: Lake Calhoun 2009. I'll be taking photos near the boat house on the north side of the lake from 9-1pm.
Dogs Around the Lakes is a series of posters for the chain of lakes in Minneapolis (I hope to bring this project to St. Paul's Lake Phalen this summer!). Entering your dog to be a candidate for the poster is very easy! Bring your pup to the lake for a photo on the photo shoot day and I'll record your email address to let you know what dogs are selected for the poster. Everyone gets exercise and there is no cost to participate!
I will post a rain delay date if the weather does not cooperate.

Thank you to the 40 dogs and owners that participated in the Lake Harriet photo shoot! The sixteen dogs for the poster have been selected and will be notified this week.

I had a great weekend at the St. Paul Art Crawl in the Hamm Brewery building. I hope to see you at Art A Whirl! My studio is located in the Northrup King Building and with over 150 other artists in the building, this building is the place to be during Art A Whirl. Dogs Around the Lakes: Lake Calhoun

Greetings Lake Calhoun! This is the first year for the poster series Dogs Around the Lakes to feature Lake Calhoun and you can be part of this! I'll be strolling between the beach/playground area and the boat launch near the north side of the lake on Sunday, May 3rd starting at 9am!

I met with the Neighborhood Action Committee for the Payne-Phalen area in St. Paul to see if I could contribute to the community effort to bring positive news to Lake Phalen by holding a Dogs Around the Lakes photo shoot this summer at Lake Phalen. They autonomously approved! The next step is for the St. Paul Parks and Rec committee to also approve the project and we can begin scheduling Dogs Around the Lakes: Lake Phalen 2009! Thank you Neighborhood Action Committee for your support and see you at Lake Phalen!

Monday, April 20, 2009

Traveling over to St. Paul

Lintu Art will be sharing a space with Alsadu in the Hamm Building during the St. Paul Art Crawl. This is the first year the building will be featured in the crawl and I've heard rumor that there is free parking and the building is the beginning of the trolley route!

I've also been working in a new medium: Soft pastels (oil pastels have been my go to medium lately). They are so great to work with and I'm learning how to apply them to bring out their unique texture and style. Above is a portrait I created using these new pastels.

I'm organizing a two classes for pastels that will be held three Tuesday or Thursday nights this summer. The classes will be limited to five to six students. I'm still working on costs and exact dates. Check back soon! Excellent introduction to the medium!

Portraits for Underdog Rescue and Dogs Around the Lakes

I am beginning a body of work to benefit Underdog Rescue of Minnesota and the work will be displayed in my studio during Art A Whirl. If you'd enjoy the opportunity to donate to this great organization AND receive display ready art with a great story then stop by my studio, Northrup King Building studio 390, during Art A Whirl (May 15-May17th). Check out www.NEMAA.org for more information about this huge art event!

Dogs Around the Lakes photographers will be coming to Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun in the next few months. If your dog is photographed and selected for the poster they will appear on a limited edition poster created by Lintu Art. The Lake Harriet 2008 poster has sold out! Look for the Dogs Around the Lakes T-Shirt worn by the photographer on the walking paths of the lakes.
Lake Harriet: Saturday, April 18th, 9am -1pm

Dogs Around the Lakes 2009 Photo Day Announced

Dogs Around the Lakes is an annual poster celebrating our dog friends and beautiful summer weather. To create each poster, I visit the walking path around the chain of lakes and take photographs of dog candidates. I ask for their people's email address in order to inform them if their dog has been selected for the poster.

This year another lake will be added to the annual poster series. Lake Calhoun will have its first poster this year and Lake Harriet will celebrate its second year.

I will be at Lake Harriet April 18th from 9am-1pm near the band shell.
I will be at Lake Calhoun May 3nd from 9am-1pm near the Calhoun Pavilion.

Rain and bad weather will postpone the photo shoot but I will post the rescheduled days in my blog and around on the lake paths.

Be ready to shine pups! Sixteen dogs will be selected from each lake poster. Look for the photographer with the Dogs Around the Lakes shirt!

Wonderful Dog Rescue Groups

I've had the privilege to work with many wonderful dog rescue groups in Minnesota.

A Rotta Love Plus (www.arottalove.org) is having a benefit show hosted by Lintu Art (me!) on Saturday March 28th from 4-9pm at the Northrup King Building's third floor gallery (www.northrupkingbuilding.com). The folks from A Rotta Love Plus are passionate, organized, educated and enthusiastic about their mission. There has been great interest from many artists in the area to participate in the show and donate proceeds to A Rotta Love Plus. I'm so excited for this event and I look forward to meeting many people involved in rescuing animals.

Underdog Rescue (www.underdogrescuemn.com) will be receiving proceeds from sales of select pieces of my work during Art A Whirl. Their Saturday adoption event at Urban Animal in Uptown is where my inspiration was rekindled to help pets. I feel in love with a dog named Tex during one of their events but couldn't adopt him because my landlord had a no tolerance rule for bully breeds. Tex inspired me to explore bully breed issues, create art using these breeds as a catalyst for conversation and to raise funds for their rescue and rehoming. Visit my studio during Art A Whirl (May 15-17) to see the work for Underdog Rescue.

Pet Haven (www.pethavenmn.org) is a newer group to me but I look forward to working with them very soon!

The Sanctuary for Animals (www.thesanctuaryforanimals.com) is hosting their Second Annual Silent Auction and Benefit Dinner on July 19th in Waconia, MN. I will be donating a pet portrait with all proceeds going to fund their efforts. A great night and dinner are only $20!

St. Paul Art Crawl, Fox 9 News Interview, TPT

This spring will be very busy for Lintu Art!
I'll be showing work for the first time at the St. Paul Art Crawl! I'll be in the newly renovated Hamm Brewery building in studio 207 with my friends from Alsadu (www.alsadu.com. The St. Paul Art Crawl is Friday April 24, 6-10 pm - Sat April 25, 12-8 pm - Sun April 26, noon-5 pm.

I'm scheduled to be interviewed by Fox 9 News about the show I'm putting together to benefit A Rotta Love Plus. The show, Deviant Art: Dispelling Myths, is meant to be an opportunity for dialog about the "deviant" dog breeds. Work that will be presented at the show highlights the positive aspects of rottweilers, American pit bulls, and other breeds while also touching on the mishandling, misconception, and misunderstanding. Deviant Art: Dispelling Myths is scheduled for Saturday, March 28th from 4:00-9:00pm in the third floor gallery of the Northrup King Building.

Last fall I was filmed in a series called Legacy Letters by 1000 Friends of Minnesota. Here is the link to the YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvIOiM_GJmI&feature=channel_page
The video is about my time as the manager at Cedar Summit Farm in New Prague, MN. How fun!

New Call for Pet Models!

Calling all dogs, cats, gerbils, and other pets!
Do you have what it takes to be a pet model? When you catch a glimpse of yourself in the water bowl do you think, "Marley has nothing on me!" Then I need photos of you to create drawings to be displayed at my studio and other venues!

I was recently invited to display work at a vet clinic and I am looking for digital images of pets to create work for this display. The photo can be of the pet by him or herself or with people. Please have the photo in focus and photos that are close-up have more detail, allowing me to capture more personality.

Please email sarah.lintu@gmail.com

Thanks!

NEMAA Co-Captain and Uptown Association Intern

Along with Debbie, the building manager, I am the Northrup King Building representative for NEMAA (Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association) for this year. I've been able to meet many artists in the building by being the co-captain (handing out flyers to each studio will do that!). I hope I'm able to help answer and direct questions from both NEMAA and the artists in the building.

I've also been selected to intern with the Uptown Association to help plan various events including the Uptown Art Fair in August. I'm very excited to be involved with this organization and I am expecting to learn a lot about the Uptown area and what it takes to organize a huge event like the Uptown Art Fair.

First Thursday and Carver Lake Vet

My studio will be open for February's first Thursday: Feb 5th from 4-9pm. Come out of the cold and enjoy the Northrup King Building's studios!

Since Valentine's Day is coming up and I'm planning my own wedding, I'll be giving a discount for all engagement and wedding portraits ordered in February. A drawn or painted portrait emphasizes the love shared between the subjects. The time dedicated to creating a portrait can capture expressions and mood in ways a photograph can not.
If you would like to explore the idea of having a portrait done, please email me at sarah.lintu@gmail.com

I've been invited to display my work at Carver Lake Veterinary Clinic in Woodbury. I am still in the process of measuring wall space and getting work ready for display but I hope to have work up by the end of February. If you visit the Carver Lake Vet, look for Lintu Art!

Hamm Brewery Weekend

The weekend gallery event at the Hamm Brewery in St. Paul was a great success! I had a busy weekend with the show and I got engaged on Friday! Thank you all those friendly gallery guests that congratulated me!
I had the chance to talk about my work this weekend and also hear so many great stories about pet antics and the Hamm Brewery history. The space was beatiful and it was interesting to have so much wall space to display my work. I want to thank everyone involved with putting on the show and I hope that building becomes a busy place for artists and events!

Open studio, City of Lakes Photography, Hamm's Brewery

Next First Thursday: Feb 5th, 5-9pm at Northrup King Building. View art of many local artists, talk to them directly about their work, and explore the NE Art's District!
1500 Jackson Street NE
Minneapolis, MN
www.Northrupkingbuilding.com

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful and fun experience of having our pictures taken professionally with City of Lakes Photography's Jeff Ilse. We were able to take photos at the dog park to include our dog Marilyn. Jeff was great to work with, listened to our ideas, and helped us create images that we will cherish for a lifetime. His website is: http://cityoflakesphotography.com/index.html

Hamm beer will forever be etched into my memory thanks to a few college friends who filled a closet full of the stuff to sell to the underaged and under-informed freshmen. But I have the wonderful experience of making new Hamm memories by being a visiting artist in the newly renovated Hamm Brewery artist studio building. I'll be sharing a space with my Northrup King neighbor Richard Simonsen. The show will be January 17-18 from 10am-6pm and located at the Historic Hamm Brewery Building in St. Paul: 707 E. Minnehaha Ave. I'm not sure if there will be Hamm samples but it will be exciting to see the newly renovated building! http://cbburnetpowell.com/node/6

Deviant Art: Dispelling Myths Art show

A Rotta Love is calling on artists!
We are looking for artists who work in any type of medium and the more creative and different the better! We are very interested in artists who are innovative in their work.
Your work has to have a dog theme. In particular art depicting or inspired by pit bulls and rottweilers. However, any breed that has been characterized by the public as a menace is welcome. For example, Akitas, Chows, and Wolf Hybrids (Breeds in addition to pit bulls and rottweilers most recently slated to be banned in Minnesota). In the past the German Shepard as well as Doberman Pincher were also labeled enemies of the public.
To submit work for the show please email Sarah at sarah.lintu@gmail.com
Please include images of work, title, dimensions, display type (wall, floor, pedestal). The show will be the last weekend in March 2009 in the Northrup King Building third floor gallery (www.northrupkingbuilding.com)
